CHRISTMAS at school / NATALE a scuola

Durante il periodo natalizio i nostri alunni sono stati impegnati in varie attività interdisciplinari centrati sul tema invernale e natalizio. Hanno decorato l'aula con disegni e forme, realizzato i loro biglietti di Natale al computer, memorizzato poesie natalizie d'autore e hanno inventato le proprie in Italiano ed in Inglese. Inoltre sono stati impegnati in altre attività che hanno coinvolto Matematica, Geografia, Musica e così via...

During Christmas time our children were engaged in various cross-curricular activities centred on Winter and Christmas theme. They decorated the classroom with drawings and shapes, made their Christmas cards using the computer, memorized authors' Christmas poems and created their own ones in Italian and in English. Again they were busy in many other activities involving Maths, Geography, Music and so on...

Rhymes and Christmas Cards

The children have been writing nice words about their parents for their Christmas cards using similes. in English when we say someone is like someone or something else it is called a simile. these poems are full of similes.

I bambini stanno scrivendo belle parole sui genitori per i loro biglietti di Natale usando similitudini. In Inglese quando diciamo che qualcuno è come qualcun'altro o qualcos'altro viene chiamata similitudine. Questi versi sono pieni di similitudini.

We also had a tree planting day here, here's a photo of me doing that in our school field.We were given, for Christmas, about 10 rowan tree plants and 10 silver birch plants by Sainsbury's- they are a very large chain of UK supermarkets.

Noi abbiamo anche avuto un "giorno della piantaggione" qui, ecco una mia foto mentre la faccio nel campo della nostra scuola. Ci sono state date, per Natale, circa 10 piante di sorbo selvatico e 10 piante di betulla argentata da Sainsbury's ,una grande catena di supermercati del regno Unito.

I nostri alunni hanno riflettuto sulle domande da voi poste ed hanno risposto in questo modo:

Our children thougth about your questions and answered in this way:

• Le olive sono prime verdi quando non sono ancora mature, diventano marroni in autunno quando sono pronte per essere raccolte e trasformate in olio. The olives are first green when aren't still mature, they became brown in autumn when they 're ready to be harvested and turned in oil.
• Non abbiamo raccolto i frutti dagli alberi durante la nostra esplorazione perchè appartenevano ai contadini e , naturalmente, non sarebbero stati contenti della nostra raccolta!!! We dindn't pick up fruits from the trees during our exploration because they belonged to the farmers and, of course, they wouldn't have been happy for our harvest!!!
• In questo periodo dell'anno, i nostri bambini mangiano melagrane, caldarroste, castagne bollite, mais arrostito e bollito, cachi, fichi freschi e secchi, uva, olive conservate e condite in diversi modi... Alcuni bambini hanno detto che le loro mamme preparano la crostata di castagne, la marmellata di castagne e conservano le castagne per usarle , nel periodo natalizio, per preparare speciali frittelle con il ripieno di castagne. At this time of the year our children eat, pomegranates, roast chestnuts, boiled chestnuts, roast and boiled mais, persimmons, fresh and dried figs, grapes, olives preserved and flavoured in different ways... Some chidren said their mums prepare chestnuts pies, chestnuts jam and preserve chestnuts to use them, during Christmas time, to prepare special Christmas pancakes with chestnut stuff.
• Hanno anche detto che piace loro mangiare la frutta , specialmente la frutta autunnale, e che amano anche provare a parlare in Inglese a scuola. They also said they like eating fruits, especially autumn fruits, and also they like very much trying to speak English at school!

About AUTUMN FRUITS

We have just watched the film of the autumn fruits.

We noticed that some fruits you grow (pears) we also grow in UK, but some ( such as pomegranates, olives ) do not grow here.

Abbiamo appena visto il filmato dei frutti autunnali.

Abbiamo notato che alcuni frutti che voi coltivate ( le pere) li coltiviamo anche nel Regno Unito, ma alcuni ( come le melagrane, le olive...) non crescono qui.

Ancora sull'AUTUNNO / Some more about AUTUMN

Le attività sul tema autunnale sono continuate con l'osservazione delle piante da frutto e dei frutti tipici di questo periodo dell'anno negli orti e nei giardini vicino alla scuola. Le informazioni ed i materiali raccolti sono stati utilizzati, in classe, per attività interdisciplinari che hanno coinvolto molte discipline: Italiano, Inglese, Matematica, Scienze, Musica, Arte, Geografia... . In particolare, usando la Lingua Inglese, i bambini hanno imparato a riconoscere le piante , i frutti e i loro colori, li hanno contati e raggruppati, hanno espresso preferenze.

The activities about the autumn have been continuing with the observation of the fruit trees and of the typical fruits in this period of the year in the orchads and in the gardens near the school.The collected information and materials have been used, in the classroom, for cross-curricular activities that involved many subjects: Italian, English, Maths, Science, Music, Art, Geography... . In particular, using English language, children learnt to know the trees, the fruits and their colours, counted and grouped them, expressed liking.

AUTUMN in Chesterton / AUTUNNO a Chesterton

To let you know a bit of the English Autumn here are a few photos of our class having a look at the Autumn colours around us. You may spot a large butterfly on one picture that is unusual for November!!

Per farvi conoscere un po' dell'Autunno inglese ecco alcune foto della nostra classe che osserva i colori autunnali intorno a noi. Potete notare su una delle foto una grande farfalla che è insolita per Novembre!!

The park we're in has a large blue wheel in the background, that wheel used to be part of a local coal mine and was (I think) part of the building at the top of the mine which used to help pull things up from the mine (coal + miners) Also some of the wheels were part of the ventilation system to keep fresh air down there.
Il parco in cui siamo ha una grande ruota blu sullo sfondo, quella ruota era parte di una miniera di carbone locale ed era (penso) parte della costruzione in cima alla miniera che aiutava a tirare su cose dalla miniera ( carbone + minatori). Alcune ruote erano anche parte del sistema di ventilazione per mantenere fresca l'aria laggiù.

Osservando l'AUTUNNO / Observing AUTUMN

I nostri alunni sono impegnati in una serie di attività interdisciplinari sul tema autunnale: osservano i colori delle foglie sugli alberi e sul terreno nella nostra Villa Comunale, le descrivono in Italiano ed in Inglese, le disegnano e colorano, imparano canti e filastrocche nelle due lingue. Fanno, contemporaneamente, Scienze, Musica, Arte e Immagine, Italiano, Inglese e altro ancora.

Our children are involved in a series of cross-curricular activities about the autumn theme: they observe the colours of the leaves on the trees and on the ground in our Villa Comunale Park, describe them in Italian and in English, draw and colour them, learn songs and chants in the two languages. They do, in the meantime, Science, Music, Art, Italian, English and much more.

How children in England Celebrate Halloween / Come i bambini festeggiano Halloween in Inghilterra

Here are, in the letters above, some information about how children celabrate Halloween in England. They says they like dressing up as witches, skeletons, devils, vampires... , going around families for "Trick or Treat" and getting chocolate and candies. They also like , at Halloween party, playing some games like "Apple bobbing", Apple swinging" or "Knock and run".

Ecco , nelle lettere sopra, alcune informazione su come i bambini festeggiano Halloween in Inghilterra. Esse dicono, che amano mascherarsi da streghe, scheletri, diavoli, vampiri..., andare in giro per le famiglie per "Dolcetto o scherzetto" e ricevere cioccolata e caramelle. A loro piace anche, alla festa di Halloween, fare alcuni giochi come " Mela galleggiante", "Mela dondolante" o "Bussa e scappa".

Un altro modo per presentarci/ Another way to introduce ourselves

All'nizio della scuola, durante il nostro " Periodo dell'Accoglienza", abbiamo usato una storia, sull'importanza dell'amicizia, in modo trasversale per iniziare i nostri bambini alla vita scolastica e alle varie discipline. Poi, Con essi, abbiamo creato un piccolo dialogo per praticare, usando la storia, queste strutture inglesi per la presentazione:" WHO ARE YOU? I'M.... ( CHI SEI? IO SONO...)".

At beginning of the school , during our "Welcome Time", we used a story, about the importance of the friendship, in a cross-curricular way to start our children to the school life and to the various subjects. Then, with them, we create a little dialogue to practice, using the story, these English structures about the presentation: "WHO ARE YOU? I'M...".

Concordiamo con la proposta dei nostri partner di cominciare il lavoro con uno scambio da parte dei bambini di informazioni personali per conoscersi completando in Italiano ed in Inglese il questionario da loro preparato. I nostri bambini sono, però, più piccoli, perciò procederanno passo dopo passo e risponderanno man mano che apprenderanno le abilità e il lessico necessari.

We agree with our partner's proposal about starting the work with a children's exchange of personal information to know each other completing in Italian and in English the questionnaire they prepared. But our children are smaller, therefore they'll go on step by step and will answer as they learn the necessary abilities and lexis.

Perhaps the best way to introduce the children to each other is to fill in a short questionnaire about their preferences. For this to have maximum impact it is best to complete a template which is in both English and Italian. This way , the UK kids are practising their English and while the Italian kids can absorb the translation and pick up a few words along the way.
